Acamazing

I walked out of my class in the basement of the Joseph Fielding Smith Building (JFSB) to sunshine and ACAPELLA! Real life acapella makes me forreal #lol. BYU has a few acapella groups. One of the groups, Vocal Point, was on an acapella tv show, and I know that there's a woman's group. I'm not sure what group this was but it was too good. I had to Snapchat it. Luckily I caught one of them...wait for it....Watch the whole video. It's ten seconds.

Love Me Waffles and Sunsets

Man alive, Waffle Love is delicious!! They have been around for a while and I follow them on Instagram, but until this weekend I've only had samples. Now, I'm two waffles in three days deep. Waffle Love started off as one waffle truck, then two trucks, and now a store...a store right next to Mountain West Burrito. A giant half-steak and half-chicken burrito? Yes. Please. Talk about a one-stop shop. And during the summer there's the shaved ice stand Yuki. They make their own syrups and have excellent seasonal flavors. What more could you ask for (besides a bigger parking lot). All my favorites!

Right now they're having a $5 special of biscoff and cream. I got that one on Saturday then tonight I got strawberries and cream.
#addicted
Sunsets have been amazing this week. Taking photos while driving may be a hazard, but I got these shots and no accidents. So far, so good. Let's be real, it's really the sunset's fault for being so beautiful.

Call Me Blondish McBlondishster

Salon Keiji. 2 pm with Allison.
Life. Changing.

I learned a lot about hair dying or bleaching or changing dark hair to light hair. Maybe not because I don't even know what it's called. All I know is bleach, heat thing, toner.

I had to bleach my hair because I had some old color in it from a couple years ago. She teased the top so the bleach line wouldn't be straight across then put conditioner on the bleach. But only at the top part. I think.
This was the first time I dyed my hair with a professional. I was semi-freaking out on the inside...the whole time. The experience was nerve wracking because I didn't know how my hair would turn out. I brought a few pictures and decided to go "warmer" because I read brassy looks trashy and I didn't want to go red. I think those were my options. All I know is that I think I wanted a caramalish blonde/blonde.
While I sat under the heater thing I got to read Lena Dunham's article in February Vogue! 'Twas awesome. Dunham is constantly writing and is able to analyze and process situations on the spot. Plus, Love. Adam. Driver.
She rinsed out the bleach and she put on the toner and developer. She used two colors. A darker one closer to the roots and bleach then a lighter one at the middle and ends so the colors would blend into each other.
Top-knot.
Life-changer and question-answerer Allison. I was there for 3.5 hours and when we were finished it was SO weird to look down and see light colored hair. So weird. And it's still shocks me that that blonde hair is my hair and connected to my head. Mind blowing. Now the stray light colored hair could be mine. Strange. And awesome.
I dyed my hair. I had to take selfies...right?
#selfieapproved

The lighting changes how the color looks in photos so I feel like I really don't know for certain what color my hair is. In natural sunlight it seems more blonde and indoors more caramely (and maybe more orange •__•). I love having light hair and I'm so glad I finally did it. Cheers!

Technology these days...

I called my mom to ask her opinion on me dying my caramel blondeish. I'm super late on this ombre train but still want to get on.
Like this Saturday.
Sal is not board.
Pumped that she answered my FaceTime call.
Bestow life advice using this face. It's hopeful, promising, and encouraging.
Jk. Jk.
I am always amazed with techonology. Today I saw my mom's face from 2,950 miles away, a third of America and half the Pacific Ocean. Our conversation was not as somber as these screenshots suggest. At least I hope not, we were talking about my future. The future of my hair and my career.
Both of which are looking brilliant and shiny.

Xin Nian Kuai Le aka Kung Hee Fat Choy

Today was the greatest day in all of mail history.

My mom sent me Lai See!!! And I got February's Skoshbox!!!

I was so excited that I blogged about it.

I'm the Year of the Horse and this is my year!!
Let us all gallop into this new year full of possibility, potential, and endless wonder.

Seriously, stoked.
 Mustangstache.

We're not even Chinese which makes it so much greater and an even bigger surprise!

Chinese New Year started on January 31 and will go for 15 days. On the actual day, my friends and I went to dinner at Ho Mei BBQ. I went there for the first time two weeks ago, and have been three times already. It's really that good. We had roast duck, bbq pork, noodles, fried rice, eggplant, shrimp (I super highly recommend the Honey Walnut Shrimp), more pork, and choy sum.

China has got it going on right now.

Hockey is kinda super awesome.

Tonight was momentous. I went to my first ever hockey game, and it was marvelous. Seriously. I mean first off, who doesn't like a sport where fighting is allowed and the men have beards? But then it gets better. It's graceful and rough all at the same time. Their skating is so smooth and their movements are so quick. You looked away for a second and bam! Goal. You missed that one. Wham! Someone is in the penalty box. Should've been paying attention.

BYU has a hockey team. Who knew? Not many. Well, now you do thanks to this blog. What what! It's a club team and this semester I am part of a team assigned to do their social media. #stoked on so many levels. They play at the Peaks Ice Arena that was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics. The arena can hold 2,300 people but the extra seats aren't out all the time. The Zambonis are huge. Way bigger than Ice Palace's. Did you know that the ice is only 3/4 inches thick? I was told by multiple people that it would be really cold, so I wore a hat, scarf, mittens, brought an extra jacket, and two blankets. #prepared #bettersafethansorry

I don't know what's going on in these pictures or what happened where they had to reset. Puck off? I think the one in the middle is because there was a goal scored. I do know that BYU was down 2-0, tied it up, then was down again 3-2, tied it up again, #20 got a hat trick (!!!), and there was a goal in the last five seconds of the game because the goalie was out playing and not guarding the goal. The guy who shot it must have good aim. #slapshot

Winnas.

Other than being super stinky, I was told hockey players have a lot of shoulder injuries, which makes sense because they check each other a lot and get hit against the sides and what not. Fighting in college isn't allowed, but it's still a really physical sport. They fall down, get tripped, drop their stick, and have to get right back up. My brother and sister would not do well in hockey. #weakshoulders #lastpickformyhockeyteam

I used to go on field trips to Ice Palace, a local ice rink in Hawaii, the only ice rink on O'ahu, and used to think the red dots in the ice were blood from people whose fingers got cut off when they fell down. Makes sense right? If you fall down, someone will skate past you and slice your fingers off. I've already had one too many fingers shaved off. Not trying to lose another. It may not grow back another time.

I had a great time. My hockey experience is off to a FANtastistic start.

Kale

Tonight I cooked a snack. And a healthy one at that. Kale chips. Delicious and nutritious. Not to mention the easiest thing to make, just as long as you don't burn them in the end.

Start with organic kale because they're one twelfth of the dirty dozen.
Little bugs were huddled on the stems. Try to wash them off. No, definitely wash them off. Then salad spin dry.Toss with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
Bake at 325 degrees for twelve minutes.
Kale chip up folks.

Bell Canyon

This past weekend I went on a hike with my friend Tigg to the first waterfall in Bell Canyon.
Rough start. Strong finish.
The trail is actually really pretty, but it's hard to realize that when you don't have enough oxygen in your lungs. There is a resovoir, huge rock mountains, a waterfall/stream, and a view of Salt Lake City.

Special...

When it was over we went to Costco and ate. I had a slice of combo pizza, a turkey pesto sandwich, and a berry sundae. Then I went back the next day and had another slice of pizza and a chicken bake.
All in all, the great outdoors are great.

Pickin' Berries

Finally! I got to go berry picking! It has been on my "Summer Bucket List" for years, and for good reason. Berry picking was just as fun as I built it up to be. Hallelujah for +alicia yan for finding and taking me to McBride Briar Patch, making my dreams come true.

Raspberries are pretty dang thorny. If you go, you should definitely wear long pants and long sleeves. When you pick raspberries, if they are ripe, they come right off leaving this white cone-shaped middle. I have never seen raspberries still on the vine but they look exactly like their pictures! Those fruit snack package images are spot on.

Utah surely has beautiful skies.
The next door neighbors have reindeer, regular deer, goats, and sheep. They domesticate their animals by bottle feeding them while they are babies. When the reindeer are grown, they use them to pull sleighs. No joke, that's what the old man farmer told me. This little girl was feeding the animals leaves and flowers. I'm just glad her fingers didn't get bitten off.
I'm actually not sure what animal this is. I think it's a male goat, but it's eyes weren't square shaped, so I'm not completely sold on that answer. The old man farmer kept saying how beautiful he was.
The older couple that runs the patch have been farming in Utah for ten years. They had a few rows of strawberries and let me pick a few. Raspberry season will last all through fall until winter. I picked a pound of fruit which costed me $3. Alicia and Stan were more dedicated to the cause and picked a total of 5.5 pounds!

Oh yeah, the old man gave us a piece of rope so we could tie the buckets around our waists so we could pick with two hands. Looks dumb, but works berry picking wonders.

That night, we made crepes with fresh raspberries and fresh whipped cream. Yumscrumdeeleeumpcious.
