A Non-Pioneer Pioneer Day

My first Pioneer Day not at home, so I tried to no avail to recreate Mother Sally's holiday. I started with an email blast.

Subject: PIONEER DAY!

Pioneer Day picnic tomorrow to celebrate that we are not pioneers!! Details to follow within a twelve hour time frame.

If these were real pioneers, they would not be smiling, and I don't think there would be a brown person with them.

My email blasts almost always never get responded to. I'm not sure why, maybe I need to spice them up a little. If you didn't know, Pioneer Day is a big deal. There are fireworks, bonnets and aprons. It is also a state holiday, and a time to reflect on those who crossed the treacherous lands to claim the great state that is now Utah. Their life probably wasn't as enjoyable as the Oregon Trail makes it seem. I am grateful to not be a pioneer.

To celebrate, we went on a hike, an activity to connect to our pioneer ancestors. Stewart Falls was littered with people, probably all actual pioneer descendants.
Us (Me, Derek, Justine, Justin and Kasey) and the couple taking a self portrait.
God's Land.
The hike was beautiful. Who knew that Utah was so green during the summer?

That night, we all went to the Owls game at UVU. The Owls are the single A minor league team affiliated with the Anaheim Angles.
There was a boy and a girl owl. They could've made their eyes a little less scary looking.

Kasey Ko's final hoorah in Utah before moving home.
